Demonstrating our zinc-based storage batteries, which we’re charging up with a bike. Our booth has a TV and some lights, but we’re off the grid without any electrical connection. The benefit of zinc batteries is that they are inexpensive and safe enough to be used on a large scale, to smooth or firm solar and wind power.

Each cell is in the neighborhood of 1.5 V, so we have 8 to make a 12 volt stack. 1.5 is the potential difference between zinc and nickel. Which is science.
